Indoor Facilities

The Employee Recreation Program is responsible for the operation of all gym facilities in the park, which vary depending on location. Our goal is to have these facilities conveniently available to employees so that they can work out, have fun or relax. These facilities are restricted to employee use only, with the exception of times that they are booked for special functions.

These gyms house a variety of equipment that we invite you to come in and use. Although the equipment and space varies in each Recreation Hall, the following is a list of what can be found in Recreation Halls around the park:

  • An area dedicated to aerobic & exercise equipment: free weights, weight machines, squat racks, weight benches, treadmills and elliptical machines
  • A lending library as well as benches, couches or chairs for relaxing and reading
  • Ping pong tables, pool tables, and pianos

Large indoor Employee Recreation Halls with basketball courts are located at Mammoth Hot Springs, Old Faithful Lodge, and Lake Lodge. We arrange with location security to lock these facilities at approximately 11pm, and then to unlock them at 6 am the following morning. You will be expected to use gym shoes while using the basketball courts in these Recreation Halls - using work boots or black soled shoes will mark and damage the floor surfaces. Please carry the gym shoes in and change in the Recreation Hall in order to avoid tracking in dirt, which also damages the surface.

Canyon Village features a Recreation Hall that is divided by accordion walls and can be opened into the Employee Pub. At Grant Village the lobby of the Grayling Employee Dormitory is used as the Employee Recreation Hall. At Roosevelt, there is a cabin that is used for Employee Recreation. The hours of operation of these facilities vary, consult your Location Recreation Staff for more information.

As mentioned before, these facilities may sometimes be closed due to special functions. The Recreation Program does all it can to limit these closures because it causes an inconvenience to the employees. Although this happens infrequently, it is unavoidable due to the limited facilities in the Park available for meeting spaces.

The Recreation Halls are also used by the Recreation Staff for special employee functions such as dances, movies, swap meets, and seminars. This may also force us to keep the facility closed during setup and/or cleanup.

We hope that while using these Recreation Halls you play a positive role in the community and respect them. It is a unique privilege to have a free community recreation facility set aside for employees.
