Jessi Gerdes has been one of the research librarians at Yellowstone for almost 11 years. She’s answered questions on everything from laws in the park to ghosts at the Inn. While she may not immediately be able to answer your question, she can help you find the book that will.

The Winter Employee Photo Contest is back! Whether you’re new to the contest or a veteran winner, turn your photos into the Snow Lodge, Mammoth or Parkwide recreation office by February 8 for a chance to win. There are three categories: Wildlife, Scenic, and People. The prizes for the top three in each category are: $50, $35, and $25.
Photos will be displayed for judging on these dates:
February 11 – Mammoth Xanterra Employee Dining Room 11 am – 1 pm
February 13 – Old Faithful Employee Pub 3 pm – 10 pm
As with all YCERP events, employees (and their immediate family members) of NPS, YPSS, DNC, Medcor, and Xanterra are welcome to participate in both entries and judging!

Our Winter Staff Gear is here and available for purchase! We have t-shirts, hoodies and sweatpants this winter. You can stop by the Parkwide or Mammoth Recreation Office Monday – Friday between 8 am and 5 pm to buy your gear. You can also call 344-5225 or 344-5283 and talk to one of us if you are not located in Mammoth. For Snow Lodge, beginning Thursday you can stop by the Snow Lodge Recreation Office in Larkspur 119 to purchase your gear. Check out our Activity Calendars here for more information on office hours. We have limited sizes in each color so be sure to buy yours soon!

The Grand Targhee Employee Ski Trip is almost upon us! The three day/two night trip on January 22, 23 and 24 is the perfect way to get out of the park and hit the slopes. From Mammoth and Snow Lodge, we meet in West Yellowstone and then head to the resort. At the cozy resort you’ll find an outdoor hot tub and heated swimming pool, an exercise facility, several different dining options and of course some of the best powder in the Lower 48!
The trip cost includes transportation from your location, two nights lodging in the Teewinot Lodge, a full day ski pass on the 23rd, snacks and a $20 gift card to the resort. Ski/snowboard rentals are not included.

The winter season has begun in Yellowstone! The snow is falling, the animals are out and the majesty of the park is evident everywhere. There are all kinds of things happening in Mammoth and Snow Lodge to keep you busy this winter.
Canyon Coach Trips
We will have several trips to Canyon throughout the season. These trips are $10 and are geared towards cross-country skiers but snowshoers and sightseers are welcome to sign up. Xanterra Transportation is kind enough to lend us a coach and driver at a highly discounted price so due to the popularity of the trips, non-Xanterra employees are eligible on a space-available basis. The dates are as follows:

Grand Targhee Employee Ski Trip
Sign up now for the annual employee ski trip! It will be January 22 – 24. This is your chance to downhill ski at a resort known for its great powder (over 500 inches annually) and short lift lines. The resort also has two restaurants, a hot tub, outdoor heated pool and just a general feeling of coziness in the mountains. There are two seminars currently scheduled for this season. The first is a Birds of Winter talk presented by Katy Duffy. Discover how adaptations enable birds like bald eagles, trumpeter swans and even tiny chickadees to survive winter in Yellowstone.

The second seminar is a literature talk presented by Jessi Gerdes titled “This ain’t Alice’s Park : true stories of living and working in Wonderland”. She will talk about several different accounts of literature from real park employees detailing their life while working in Yellowstone.

The season is coming to a close and location recreation offices will soon open their doors for the last time. Staff logo Nalgenes, t-shirts, hoodies (you’ll need one this winter!), bumper stickers and koozies remain available for purchase. Members of the 100 Mile Hiking Club should submit their log sheet or pick up their achievement packet.
