Nearly 300 entries were whittled down to the winning 15 and 5 honorable mention photographs. Thank you to everyone who entered a photo and to all those who judged! To see details, please click on individual photos.
The Mammoth gym hadn’t been so loud in years. At times the referee whistles couldn’t be heard over the cries of cheering fans. After the initial seven teams were whittled down to two, Lake’s Norovirus and Mammoth’s Raging Elks met in the championship, a rematch of the 3 on 3 championship played earlier this summer that Lake won by a single point.
The Lake versus Mammoth rematch had been anticipated since the 4 on 4 tourney was announced. Using the sting of defeat as motivation the Raging Elks played with a determination and fierceness that Norovirus never matched. In two eight minute halves the Raging Elks distributed the ball and played as a team. Captain Wesley Powell led by example, hustling after every rebound and knocking down nearly every shot he took. When the final buzzer sounded the Mammoth team celebrated a 24-6 victory with their fans.
The 250 plus photos entered into the photo contest have been pre-screened and will be ready to judge at five locations throughout the park beginning next week. Thanks to everyone who submitted entries–we know it’s not always easy printing photos when you live in Yellowstone!

The Slammin Goofballs and Geezers, Mammoth’s top two teams, faced each other in the third and championship round of the parkwide playoffs this past Wednesday on the Lower Mammoth Field. Spectators filling the sidelines were not disappointed in the tight game which went the full seven innings. The home team Goofballs took the title for the first time since 2009.
Congratulations to Captain Clark Dodd and his team.

With so much to do and see each summer in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, there’s just not enough time to experience everything. Luckily for us the Employee Photo Contest allows us to see the GYE through many eyes. Grizzly cubs playing on Mount Washburn, wranglers laughing at the Roosevelt corrals, early morning mist rising off the Firehole—Yellowstone employees capture amazing moments. Share your photographic artistry and your summer experiences by entering the photo contest. The five categories are Landscape, Close-Up, Wildlife, People, and Humorous. The top three finishers in each category will be awarded $50, $30, and $20, respectively, and have their winning photos displayed with full credits on the YCERP webpage. For details and entry forms stop into your location employee recreation office.
All entries must be submitted by 5:00 pm, Monday, August 11th. Photo contest judging will be held in employee recreation halls on August 19th, 20th, and 21st in tandem with Winter Job Fairs hosted by Xanterra.

We’re not talking about furry little animals—we’re talking about Martin as the name of choice among YNP pool hustlers. Out of eight participants in the Parkwide Pool Tournament hosted Thursday, July 17th at Old Faithful, three of the players were named Martin. When asked how we should differentiate between the Martins in our bracket, Martin Brewer, the OF Lodge Housekeeping Assistant Manager, said to refer to him as the ‘handsome’ Martin and so it went. Sparked by his good looks and sense of humor, Handsome Martin rolled through the competition until meeting Canyon’s sharp shooting Ovidiu Hodorogea in the finals.
Handsome Martin lost the first game but in the double elimination format had another chance at the tournament and won with a final game victory. What can we say—Martin Brewer has it all and $75 dollars coming his way.
Thanks to the OF pub for their help hosting the event and to all the players and fans who participated.
